At ADHA, we believe that fighting Diabetes and Hypertension in Africa cannot be separated from empowering the people who live with them. Health and empowerment go hand in hand — because a person equipped with knowledge, resources, and opportunity is far better positioned to manage their health, support their family, and thrive despite the challenges these conditions bring.
Beyond Awareness
While sensitization remains at the core of our mission, ADHA recognizes that true empowerment goes further than information alone. Across our chapters — including our work with communities in Kenya and beyond — we are building programs that address both the health and the livelihoods of the people we serve, particularly persons with disabilities and others disproportionately affected by chronic illness.
Our Areas of Focus
Health Empowerment
We equip individuals and communities with practical knowledge on preventing, recognizing, and managing Diabetes and Hypertension — turning awareness into everyday action. This includes supporting access to screening, treatment information, and, where possible, vital health resources for vulnerable groups.
Economic Empowerment
Chronic illness often carries an economic burden, particularly for persons with disabilities and low-income families. ADHA is committed to supporting economic empowerment initiatives that help individuals build sustainable livelihoods, reducing the financial strain that so often accompanies long-term health conditions.
Community-Driven Support
Empowerment is strongest when it is community-led. ADHA works closely with local coordinators and volunteers across our chapters to identify the specific needs of each community, ensuring our programs reflect the realities on the ground rather than a one-size-fits-all approach.
Support for Persons With Disabilities
Persons with disabilities are often among the most vulnerable to the effects of Diabetes and Hypertension, while also facing greater barriers to accessing care. ADHA is committed to ensuring this community is not left behind — through targeted health support and inclusive economic empowerment programs.
